Plug your iphone, ipad, or ipod touch in using your usb to lightning or usb to 30-pin dock cable. click on the device icon at the top left to go to the device tab. click on check for update in the summary pane. click on download and update; agree to the terms and conditions. enter the passcode on your iphone or ipad, if prompted.. Now to download and install the latest version of ios. go to settings > general > software update. ios will check if there's a new version. tap download and install, enter your passcode when. Download ios 9.0.1 ipsw firmware from here, or download ios 9 ipsw firmware for your device here, be sure to pick the exact model you wish to update itunes 12.3 is strongly recommended due to bundled ios 9 support, though itunes 12.2 apparently works too.
The iphone 4 and older iphones cannot update to the latest version of ios. the 1st generation ipad can also not update past 5.1.1, and ipod touches 4th generation and older cannot get the latest version.. To get the latest version of itunes, update the software on your mac: go to apple ( ) menu > system preferences, then click software update. if you can’t update to macos 10.14 mojave, you might still be able to get some updates for itunes (up to itunes 12.8). open the app store on your mac, then click updates at the top of the app store window.. Tap the download and install button at the bottom of the screen to begin installing the iphone software update. if you have protected your phone with a passcode (and you should!), you'll need to enter it here..
