Lost Odyssey Xbox 360 Review

Lost Odyssey is a J-RPG (japanese role playing game) released on the Xbox 360 system. With the involvement of famous Hironobu Sakaguchi (creator of the Final Fantasy series), this game sets the bar high for turn based role playing games.
Seeing as it has the magical touch from Hironobu Sakaguchi, the game features all the similar things that a Final Fantasy game would include.

The main character of the story is Kaim, an immortal who has lost his memories. Kaim meets other immortals who have also lost their memories and together they try to unravel the mystery behind it all. He also meets mortals who join up and form a party in which they adventure through various lands. We quickly learn at the beginning that the evil character in this game, Gangora, is plotting to destroy the world and gain vast amounts of power in the process. It is then up to Kaim and his gang of travelers to try and stop Gangora.

The story in this game is told through various means. It is mainly told through cutscenes (ingame and FMVs), as well as dream sequences. Dream sequences are when the immortal characters remember fragments of their past and have dreams which tells them a little more about their story. The dreams are told in text fashion where text appears slowly on the screen with nice sound effects and touching music.

The music throughout the game is astonishing. From the start until the end, the music plays a key role in making the game a more epic experience. Each city, each battle, and each cutscene features a remarkable music score which really sets the tone within the game.

The characters are controlled individually in the game, with the ability to control most of the characters. In fact, the game forces us to control different characters in the game through different scenes. This normally happens on multiple occasions where the characters are split up into small groups and all must reach the same destination. The game features the normal RPG touch, which includes the ability to save using save points, buy items in shops, equip armor, and speak to a large amount of NPCs in the game.

Graphically the game is very beautiful. For a game that was produced in 2008, it still holds up till this date in terms of graphics and visual attraction. Each cutscene features a sharp graphical display of rendered CGI. There are couple of spots where the game has blurring but that is not noticed much especially when we are in the heat of battle.

The battle system used in this game is turn-based. Meaning that each move an enemy or player makes happens after another move and never at the same time. Just think of Final Fantasy 7 and you will know what the expect from this game as well.

There are two main drawbacks to Lost Odyssey which many have complained about in the past. The first thing is that the battles in the game can stretch for too long. Even when fighting normal monsters it can sometimes feel a lot of time is getting wasted when we could be focusing on the main story. Sometimes you will find yourself stuck in a battle or even lose the battle, which feels strange as this is expected normally in boss battles.

The second drawback is the puzzles in the game. There are times during the game when we are not fighting where we have to solve mini puzzles to proceed to the next part of the game. Things such as going back and forth from one end of the area to another and turning valves to open the main gate. After some trial and error this can be overcome, albeit a lot of time is put into it, but the battles are what causes the game to lose some of its enjoyment.

Puzzles aside, the game requires us to grind to be at the correct level cap to fight the monsters. This is not the type of game where you can whiz past to the end without doing a fair bit of battling along the way. This however is expected in most J-RPGs, so it is of no surprise to us that it happens in this game as well.

Another annoying part of the battles is the randomness. Often times you will expect your character to perform a spell or skill but it will miss, giving the enemy an advantage that can cost you the faith of the entire battle. If you are over-leveled this should not be an issue, so we recommend a bit of grinding along the way. There are areas in the game where you can save and reset the game and keep battling spawned enemies until you are leveled accordingly.

The two type of character classes in the game are melee (close combat) and casters (distant combat). Similar to other RPGs we can play as swordsmen who can get close to the enemy and perform their primary skill based attacks, and then mage type classes who cast spells from a distance. Generally the mage type classes are weak in terms of armor so the melee classes have to stay in front in the party formation. There is also a hunter based class but we see this much later on in the game.

It is to be noted that this game is a Xbox 360 exclusive and comes on 4 discs. For the best experience we recommend installing each disc on the system before playing. You will still be required to insert each disc to play the game.

Overall Lost Odyssey is a very good game. If you are a fan of RPGs like the Final Fantasy games and enjoy good storyline based games, then Lost Odyssey is highly recommended!

Lost Within Myself

How do I write this; how do I even begin?
I have never felt this way in my entire life. I have not been feeling good lately. It is just that simple. I have not been feeling good mentally, emotionally, and physically. I think this is when it started and the pain has grown from there. This is new to me and it is completely out of my character. Im in a bad, bad place. I felt it coming it for a while and tried to fight it to the best of my ability, but for the past week and half, I have let it engulf me. I am normally very good at hiding it.
I am not a complainer. Every once in a while I write from my heart on here to explain pain or problems going on in my life, or sometimes simply to give thanks and talk about happiness. Writing is my outlet and therapy, and my friends who read this blog really help me get through tough times. I am slightly embarrassed to even write this post, but I am at the point where I can use any prayers or help you may have because I dont know what to do anymore.
I think I finally burned myself out completely. The type of burned out that not just a day of laziness can resolve. This burn out comes within my soul. Am I depressed? I dont know... it feels so weird to even affiliate that word with myself because I try so hard to always solve problems, make things happen, make the best out of life, and be thankful for what I have. But I am not perfect.
I do know that I am exhausted. Im tired. Im tired of working so damn much. All of this hard work is not paying off yet. It could (keyword is could) pay off one day, but maybe not. Because of that uncertainty I am constantly self-doubting my ability to achieve success. I am constantly telling myself that I am not going to achieve my dreams. Because some people work their entire life and success never comes.
I have a multitude of other issues going on that no one wants to hear about and a very, very broken heart. All of these problems combined have been killing me. I cant focus on the positive anymore. I cant really focus on anything. I cant stay optimistic... because for a long time, I did because I believed things would get better, and they really havent. Actually, nothing has changed. I am just unable to hide anymore. I constantly pray for strength, guidance, and help to get through these hard times, and most of the time I feel abandoned and empty.
What is most surreal to me the physical symptoms this stress and pain is causing me to have. I am having the worst night sweats, even though I am freezing most of the night. It is literally like the second a negative thought enters my mind, my body starts to go crazy and I sweat like Im working out at the gym. My hands stay ice cold. My joints are hurting, especially my knees. My RLS has surfaced with a vengeance after months of being controlled. My body aches every single morning when I wake up. Panic attacks come out of nowhere. I stay exhausted. I am always on the verge of tears. I rarely have the strength to text or call anyone back because I have nothing to say. I have nothing to offer. I cant concentrate on anything. This is HELL. I am so damn lonely, even around my friends and family. My heart is so empty and I do not know what to do right now to fix this. I feel dead inside. This is not me. This is not how I live my life. This is not my personality.
What I feel right now goes against everything I stand for in life. It goes against helping other men and women learn to love themselves and live the best life possible. It goes again my #BeFearless project. It goes against my book. It goes against everything I am working so hard to build for myself.

Writing this is so hard, but I am the point where I need someone to tell me they have had a heart so broken that it tore their world apart. I need to know that someone out there has been exhausted, and hurt like I am.

I have had this blog post written and saved for about a week now, but have not wanted to publish it. But somehow, someway, I have got to pull through this, and I am going to remember this moment. I dont know how because I so damn miserable inside and the only time I have peace is when my mind and body are so exhausted that I go numb. Here is where I am right now.

Hey everyone! So this is the last post from October. We wanted to post every weekday and we survived and accomplished to do so! It was really hard because we have classes and the city is in a miserable shape (they are making the roads) so we have to go far away to take descent photos. But we managed and cannot wait to get back on our routine and post three times a week.

My style has changed a bit during the summer, I tend to choose a more simple and laid back outfit over a really complicated and colorful look. I already told you, I am really obsessed with my new coat. And it looks amazing with my Hogl shoes that I am so afraid to wear because they are my most expensive shoes, hehe.

Lost In Translation II

I have translated a wonderful children picture book from Hebrew that addresses social and emotional intelligence and compassionate communication geared toward children ages 4-8. The book sold 100,000 copies in Israel since 1999 and now we are seeking a US publisher.
I am wondering how to find a publisher or an agent for such a topic since the books that I see in the market are very preachy, written by therapists and published by big publishers that do not accept unsolicited manuscripts.
I know there is a huge market in the US for this book because the author came for a tour last December with a play based on the book and I was able to arrange many performance with almost no effort. People where begging me for books after and before the performances. I am just puzzled with how to break in the market.
Would appreciate your professional advice.

When you say that the book addresses "social and emotional intelligence and compassionate communication geared toward children ages 4-8", I cannot be sure whether you see "very preachy" as a plus or a minus. If you see preachiness as a minus, be aware that your query letter may be giving the wrong impression.

I should also mention that based on the mistakes in your question (where / many performance / children book / break in the market), your translation may be giving the wrong impression as well.

If you are talking about a book published by an Israeli publisher, then (as Ive mentioned before) the answer is that usually publishers in other countries are pursuing contacts at the large publishers themselves in an effort to sell foreign rights. As a fellow publisher, the no unsolicited manuscripts rule doesnt apply to them. If this is the situation were talking about, I dont understand why you would be the one pursuing a US publisher. (And just in case: if you dont work at the foreign publisher, you cant contact US publishers and say youre "representing" the foreign publisher.)

If you are talking about a self-published book, however, or (regardless of the term you use) any "publisher" where the author takes on the burden of selling the book, then you are effectively in the same boat with any other author attempting to find an agent or publisher, and all the same rules and advice applies-- except that you must also inform everyone you query or submit to that Hebrew rights are not available.

I am severely directionally challenged.

Im always getting lost.

Thankfully me and the maps app on my iPhone are BFFs so I seem like I know what Im doing

most of the time.

But the other day I got really, really lost.

While. I. was. out. on. my. morning. run.

Like 2 miles in the wrong direction lost.

It takes a very special person to do that.

By the time I realized that I was really lost and sought help from my BFF to get home it said I was 10 minutes away by car and 36 minutes away by walking.

So I called Aaron and asked him/told him to come pick me up (because I had already been running for over 30 minutes).

After he laughed at me he told me there was no way he could come get me because the kids were still sleeping and he had to get ready to leave for work.

So I ran home. Fast.

Because I had to.

And I did it.

People, I ran 5 miles!

On week 8 of the couch to 5k program when I was supposed to run for 28 minutes (which is around 3 miles).

And I was so proud of myself.

So I write this post to lighten the mood (feel free to laugh at me because its funny and pathetic. Seriously who gets that lost that close to their home) and to encourage you that you might be able to do things that you would never imagined possible if you just try. Or get lost and are forced to. Whatever works.

*I should also add that I was trying out a new route that Aaron had described to me before. Hopefully Ive got it down now :)

Lost Sketchbook

Had to happen sometime. At the last Sketchcrawl we went to the De Young Museum in Golden Gate Park, it was a real good choice. Good central location, target rich environment, free music (Jug Band that day), and the museum lunch counter was good.

The De Young Museum features a tower you can take an elevator to and enjoy a 360° view of the city. No museum fees, its free! Wonderful! I broke out a new cahier moleskin for the occasion and started on a view towards the Golden Gate bridge. I was catching up to the group and my energies were flagging, but I managed to get one watercolor done. I took a snap of it and went down to get a bite to eat.

At the lunch area I had a thoroughly relaxed lunch and the view of the sculptures in the museum grounds was not bad either. Someone was waiting for a table and I offered mine as I was going anyway. I left and even glanced back as the bus staff swooped in to clear the table.

It would be a full hour or so before I find that the sketchbook is missing. I rush back inside and ask the staff if they noticed a little brown sketchbook. No luck. I ask lost and found and still zip. I retraced my steps all the rest of the afternoon and, needless to say, any remaining enthusiasm for drawing I may have had on reserve left me. I hung around till the end of the crawl to see everyones work as this is my favorite part of a sketchcrawl day.

Everyone was shocked about my news and even offered me their spare sketchbooks. Thanks, people. Typical for me to be carrying four or five at any one time and apparently it goes for everyone at the crawl.

Let that be a lesson to you, kids. Always do a thorough check of your valuables before you leave a table. This one sketchbook had the one sketch in it, thankfully. Otherwise I would be an emotional wreck. I console myself that at least I got a picture of the work -- practicing that "half-full" point of view--and that it wasnt the book that held my Europe trip in it. That one was full...and safely inside my bag.
